Have you ever been so frustrated you finally yelled out the old movie line “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!”? Well that’s how this project was born and it’s true, I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore, and I’m asking you to join me.
Well that’s how this project was born. And it’s true, I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore, and I’m asking you to join me.
It started when we were filming Doctored, then it got worse on my newest film, Bought. I’ve always been a die-hard free-market capitalist. (I even made a response to one of Michael Moore’s movie that sold over a million dollars in one day.)
But as we started uncovering stories in Doctored and Bought about big businesses cheating, about people dying from drugs that companies knew were deadly but they released them anyway, about food companies that are literally getting laws written that allow them to make our kids sicker and sicker… even I had to admit capitalism has jumped the tracks.
A friend of mine pointed out, what is happening isn’t capitalism, it isn’t even worthy of being called “crony capitalism.” It’s thuggery. It’s government sponsored thuggery.
Our system has been hijacked, the game is fixed. It started in the 30’s and intensified about 50 years ago. And now we’re starting to see the results.
85 people have as much wealth as the poorest half of the entire world! This is the stuff that topples governments, and we better get in front of it. Never in history has the gap been this great without a revolution and catastrophic consequences.
The economy is growing, but it’s not growing for everyone. The wealth gap is careening out of control and the only real solutions, small business and entrepreneurship, are being choked out. Mainstream media covers the surface and never hints at any solution.
Meanwhile, groups are forming expecting some benevolent government to save us. It’s not going to happen, the system has been bought. The very politicians they turn to for solutions are using the story to buy votes and fill their campaign coffers.
If it is ever going to be fixed, it will be because we joined together to fix it.
